Excellant service from First Choice although the actual loan approval was a little rediculous. My wife and I have always had credit scores of well over 800 and yet we were forced to provide additional information beyong what was reasonable in this situation, at least until I said "enough- approve it or not just let me know which so we can take other action".

Joe and his team are very professional. Available anytime I had a question and was very polite and patient with me. I had a lot of questions! I have used Joe and his team two other times in the past on refinances. His closing times were always fast, but this time I used him for a purchase. I wasn't sure how fast he was going to be able to get the loan done, but he did not disappoint. The loan was ready in less than four weeks!

My whole experience with Joe Shamie/First Choice was excellent. I'm not very good with financial matters, but Joe Shamie was wonderful about explaining everything so I could understand and he was very patient with me. He made this whole experience easy and pleasant, which I know is not always the case. Joe did all he could to get me a good rate. Joe also was so easy to reach even after hours we would text back and forth if I had more questions. His secretary, Dawn was also very helpful. I would highly recommend Joe Shamie and First Choice.

Although I liked working with Joe during the loan process, I was disappointed after the loan was processed: 1. The entire loan package with all sensitive info was emailed as an unsecured pdf attachment. I specifically asked the lender do not do it unless they password protect the file. The lender said that they would use their secure system to send the documents to me. However, I received my final closing documents as an unsecured email attachment. 2. The lender did not inform me that the lender fee is significantly discounted for Costco members. 3. The lender ordered an expedited service twice to get the payoff information from BoA. This is the most expensive way to get this information. Per BoA’s website, the payoff statements are issued for free unless an expedited service is requested. There was no need for the lender to order these statements twice using the expedited service or at least I should have been offered a choice whether I want to pay for the service that cost money. 4. The rates at this bank are not the most competitive and the lender’s fee is high, so shop around.

Loan Officer Response

I will address all of Olga’s concerns by number and then provide some additional comments. However, before I do, I would like to point out that First Choice Loan Services takes client satisfaction very seriously. In fact, included in Olga’s, and all our closing packages, is a loan officer survey we ask the borrower to complete. I have a copy of the survey completed by Olga. Here are the questions she was asked along with the answers she provided: How would you rate the overall performance of your loan officer? Good Was all of your paperwork completed accurately and submitted on time for your closing? Yes How likely are you to recommend First Choice Loan Services Inc. and your Loan officer to a friend or relative? Likely The answers provided on this site are totally contrary to those provided on our survey conducted at the time of closing. So much so that I received a call from one of Olga’s friends looking to refinance shortly after closing Olga’s loan. SO SHE DID REFER US TO HER FRIEND. It appears as if her opinion changed after we closed her loan based on the way a THIRD PARTY COMPANY handled her private information and somehow feels we did not take the proper precautions with her information. Number 1 below will address this in detail. 1. Olga requested an electronic copy of her closing package more than a month after we closed. I accommodated her request by asking the TITLE COMPANY that closed the transaction to send it to her. The unsecured email came from the TITLE COMPANY, NOT FIRST CHOICE. We at First Choice are EXTREEMLY careful with Borrower information and we go to great lengths to protect it. Olga is WRONG to accuse FIRST CHOICE of not protecting her information as EVERYTHING First Choice did with her private information was done via secured email or our secured web site. Again, FIRST CHOICE DID NOT SEND THAT EMAIL. 2. We do offer Costco members discounted lender fees and when Olga told me she was a Costco member, her lender credit was increased so that she DID RECEIVE the Costco member discounted fees. 3. The Expedited fee was charged to Olga by her bank, BOA, for the written payoff statement we needed to make the payoff and discharge her loan with them as part of the refinance. BOA does offer a “free” written payoff. However, the written request MUST BE MADE BY US MAIL and the return of the payoff statement MUST ALSO BE MADE BY US MAIL. Given the fact that we needed an updated payoff to reflect an ACCURATE PAYOFF AMOUNT we could not wait for the US MAIL to send and receive this information because it have been outdated and inaccurate by the time we received it. As far as Olga’s rate it concerned, SHE decided to NOT LOCK her rate at application hoping the markets would improve allowing her to take advantage of what she thought were going to be favorable market conditions. The markets worsened during the processing of her loan and SHE ultimately decided to lock in a higher rate than the one she wanted DUE TO ADVERSE MARKET CONDTIONS. She gambled with her rate and lost, against the advice I gave her at the time of application.
